Abstract

This study examines the adaptive strategies of semi-modern Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as they navigate the challenges of modernism while maintaining traditional Islamic values. Employing a qualitative case study approach, it explores how these institutions integrate contemporary elements, such as pedagogical innovations and technological advancements, while upholding their religious and cultural heritage. The findings reveal that semi-modern pesantren strive to balance tradition with the demands of modernity, creating an academic environment that accommodates global societal changes. Despite these efforts, the research highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining this balance between preserving a distinct identity and embracing modern imperatives. Ultimately, the study provides valuable insights into how pesantren continue to shape students' character and knowledge in ways that prepare them for the complexities of contemporary life. These findings contribute to the broader discourse on the evolving role of pesantren, emphasizing their capacity to remain relevant in developing a competitive generation within the Islamic paradigm while responding to modern challenges.
