Abstract

This article explores the crime that occurred in the capital city of Jakarta from 1980 to 1990, which was reported by the mass media Pos Kota newspaper. The study of crime in Jakarta was conducted because of the large number of thugs or bandits, which, from a histographic perspective, disturb other cities and even rural areas in Indonesia, especially in Central Java. The level of public unrest over thugs and bandits was also very high so this made the New Order government at that time also take very serious and firm steps in eradicating thugs or bandits in Indonesia. The method used in this article is historical, emphasizing the literature sources. The results of this study show that Jakarta is one of the cities with the highest crime rate in Indonesia. Various factors, including poverty, social inequality, and corruption cause this. Mass media such as Kompas, Pos Kota, and even Tempo Magazine play an important role in raising the issue of crime in Jakarta. This newspaper often provides in-depth and comprehensive coverage of various criminal cases, including cases involving government officials.
